Ferrier Wire + Design Metals U Channel
In the fall of 2022 Ferrier Wire + Design Metals purchased a new 8’ magnetic brake to expand our brake forming capabilities. Among other things the idea was to be able to offer U channel for our products. It has taken some time, trial and error and a great deal of patience but we are slowly getting to where we hoped to be. For this retail project we used 24 ga galvanized material to form the U channel around the perimeter of these perforated panels, mitred the corners, friction fit the channel to the perforated panel and then had the panels powder coated matte black. So far we are only able to used the 24 ga galvanized material for channel longer than 24”. We are still experimenting to expand our ability to form heavier mild steel and stainless steel channel. Please contact us for more information about this project or our channel capabilities.

Why Are Textured Metal Panels Used In Roofing?
Wire mesh is known to be a versatile material with almost infinite applications. However, for specific uses such as roofing, textured metal panels are a better fit. They are formed using scratching, pressing or distressing a sheet to create a metal panel texture. This coarse texture makes it highly useful for roofing applications due to the following advantages.
Merits Of Using Textured Metal Panel
Reduction In Light Reflection
Although a metal sheet on a roof can create a sleek, futuristic look, it can also pose safety risks. It is highly reflective and, therefore, can reflect sunlight and other bright lights, leading to unwanted glare. This can pose a potential hazard for motorists, especially if the building is situated close to a major roadway. However, by employing metal panel texture, the light is successfully diffused, making it safe and aesthetic.
More Resistant To Fading And Chalking
A typical painted metal roof often undergoes a phenomenon known as fading and chalking with prolonged exposure to the elements. It basically means fading or wasting away of the metal sheet, creating a powdery residue and reducing its shine. However, by virtue of being more durable and weather-resistant, a textured metal panel offers more protection against fading and chalking.
Increased Resistance To Oil Canning
A problem faced by most metal roofs, oil canning refers to a form of distortion on the surface of the metal which directly reduces its aesthetic value over time. However, by employing a textured metal panel, this problem is also avoided altogether as it is already distressed, preventing the emergence of more wavy distortions/oil canning.

5 Excellent Benefits Of Perforated Metals
Apart from wire mesh, decorative metal panels also play an integral part in many architectural and industrial applications. Some types of perforated metal also fall under this category. And while their uses can range from construction, automotive sector, and material development to even the food and beverage industry, there are certain properties/benefits of using these perforated metals that warrants their widespread usage. This blog addresses 5 such merits of these decorative metal panels.
Advantages Of Perforated Metal Panels
Aesthetically Pleasing
Perforated metals, especially with specialized patterns, add aesthetic charm to any project. A staple among many architects across the globe, They utilize different patterns and colour to convey different aesthetics and vibes to a room or facade of a building. Therefore, they are an essential part of architectural endeavours to showcase innovative design.
Offers Privacy And Promotes Natural Lighting
Due to their perforated nature, these panels are perfect as privacy screens. Whether it is in a residential setting or a more corporate layout, perforated metal panels can act as an excellent barrier, offering privacy without completely blocking out the light. Thus, natural light and other types of lighting can be used to create intriguing visual effects without compromising on privacy.
Suitable For Soundproofing
In some applications, soundproofing becomes an important parameter. Perforated metal panels are suitable for this function as well due to their inherent design. Basically the pores in the metal allow sound waves to travel through without amplifying it or creating echoes.
Lightweight And Durable
These decorative metal sheets are also known for their lightweight yet durable nature. This directly translates into easier transportation and installation in facades and other structures. The durable nature ensures it can handle stresses and the elements for decades before requiring a replacement.
More Sustainable Than Sheet Metal
Lastly, perforated metal can be easily recycled. Therefore, it is a more sustainable choice compared to other materials.

3 Applications Of Welded Wire Mesh In Infrastructure
Wire mesh primarily has two varieties, woven wire mesh and welded wire mesh. While the former is used for myriad applications, the latter finds major use in infrastructure and creating strong, sturdy barriers. The applications in the infrastructure sector can be further divided broadly into 3 categories. These applications will be addressed in the blog below.
Infrastructural Uses Of Welded Wire Mesh
Concrete Reinforcement
Perhaps the most common application of welded wire mesh lies in concrete reinforcement. The strong structure of the wire mesh increases the strength of concrete, making it less susceptible to cracking and other structural damage over the years. Concrete reinforced in this manner is used in a plethora of construction applications such as slabs, walls, ceilings, columns, pipes, retaining walls (temporary walls used during construction), landfills and much more.
Urban Structures
When it comes to urban structures, a welded wire mesh can contribute in two ways. Primarily, it serves as a protective barrier or guard railing for parks, educational institutions, warehouses, sports arenas, stadiums and more. Apart from this, it is used in reinforced concrete as mentioned above, and this concrete is then used to construct roads, pavements, sidewalks, parking lots, sports tracks/courts and much more. Therefore, welded wire mesh is prevalent in almost all urban and suburban constructions.
Transportation Infrastructure
More specialized than other forms of infrastructure, welded wire mesh also finds uses in the transportation sector, primarily in the form of bridges- both vehicular and pedestrian, as well as landing strips for the aviation sector.

Comparing Nickel And Brass Mesh For Filter Media
Woven wire mesh is known for its robust and versatile nature. Apart from the different types of materials available, they can also vary in terms of mesh opening, weave style and much more. These differences become more pronounced when they are used as a filter media. There are two popular choices in wire mesh for filtration apart from stainless steel, nickel and brass mesh. The properties of these two meshes will be compared below.
Brass Mesh Versus Nickel Mesh
Brass Mesh
Brass mesh is an alloy made of copper and zinc. This amalgamation offers some unique properties to the brass mesh.
– This wire mesh is easy to form and yet it is extremely durable. Therefore, it is not only physically tough, but it can also withstand corrosion to a significant degree.
– The presence of copper in the wire mesh gives it some anti-microbial properties, which can be extremely useful during certain filtration processes.Nickel Mesh
Nickel is a naturally occurring metal that is tempered with copper, iron, titanium or molybdenum for some specialized applications. Here are some noticeable properties of the nickel wire mesh:
– Much like brass mesh, nickel is also known for a high degree of corrosion resistance.
– The metal is known for its excellent heat resistance properties. In conclusion, both types of wire mesh fare the same when it comes to corrosion resistance. Beyond that, it is dependent on the specific application. For instance, if the filter would be subjected to high heat, then nickel mesh would be a better choice. However, if a high degree of sanitation is required, such as in the pharmaceutical and food manufacturing industry, then brass mesh is the superior option.
